Why are we independent?

With the launch of our new website as an independent voice for unbiased info about enterprise software, we wanted to share a short video about why we are independent. (And check out our new site at erpadvisorsgroup.com if you haven’t already!)

Transcript: I started my career in ERP many, many years ago. I was an implementation guy and I helped out with product management and product marketing with one of the ERP companies. And then I helped advise small and medium-sized businesses on ERP, as well as did selections for super big businesses.

I have this really wide range of views. And it’s interesting because, early on, I decided that we should be independent. Now most people that I’ve worked with have made a decision: “I’m going to go with Workday” or “I’m going to go with SAP” or “I’m going to go sell for whoever.” And I decided that’s not who we really are.

And it’s interesting. Because as I built the company, I found a really good group of professionals that agree. Where they’re like, “Hey, I want to help everybody.” And you know, when you’re independent, you can do that. That’s what’s interesting. When you sell a specific app … well, you can help the companies that your app is best fit for.

You’ve got to figure out if you’re the best fit for them, which can be a bit of a challenge sometimes. But when you’re independent, like we are, we can help anybody. And amazingly, across industries. We can go from a company that makes a rocket fuel, literally, to companies that make rockets, to companies that make components that go in rockets, or even tape for rockets, and then companies that provide services to the companies that make rockets.

We’re not just in the rocket industry, but we work across agriculture, we work across natural resources, manufacturing, distribution, because our team does have industry expertise. But we’re able to look at an ERP problem for more of an objective, almost kind of an exterior standpoint, outside the business, to say, “Hey, here’s what’s happening in the market, and here’s what we can do for you.

So that independent position is awesome. We truly do not make a dime from anybody, from any vendor, from any reseller, implementation partner. We make money from our clients. So our objectives are always aligned with what’s best for our client. And in this industry, especially if you’re talking to ERP advisory firms, if they’re not independent, you are wasting your time.
